Gtr. Manchester Open 2009

SATURDAY 6TH JUNE 2009
BIRCHWOOD LEISURE CENTRE, WARRINGTON

Five of the Competition 1 girls were entered into the Novice competition at Warrington last Saturday.
Molly Lunn and Honor Wildblood competed first, both competed extremely well with Honor winning a bronze medal on the vault and Molly completing her first four piece competition, well done to both of them.
Katie Scott Holmes, Lily Wilkinson and Gio Brady (the three musketeers) competed in the next round:-
Katie came first on bars, third on beam and second overall
Lily came third on vault, fourth on bars, third on floor, second on beam and third overall
 Gio came seventh overall
They all worked extremely hard and impressed everybody with their determination, there was no way at all any of them were going to fall off the beam and their determination paid off.  One of the judges said they were extremely impressed with all three girls – high praise indeed!

Forthcoming Fundraising Events

FUNDRAISING:
We are in need of volunteers to assist the club in various ways of raising funds in our bid for the new build; we need to raise around £65,000.
At the beginning of August, two of our coaches Paul Hockwart and Jeannie Seager will be trekking the 85 miles of Hadrian’s Wall to raise funds for Bury Gymnastics Club.
Starting from Segedunum Fort in the east they hope to complete the journey to Bowness-on-Solway in five days.
Funds raised will become part of the £65,000 the club is committed to raising towards building our new gym at Goshen.
Each child will be given a sponsorship form to take home. Please help by finding as many sponsors as you can. If you haven’t got a form , please collect one from the gym. There will be a prize draw for one lucky gymnast who will be chosen at random from the returned sponsorship forms.

Competition Squad member Ella Carter and her dad are doing the 57 mile Manchester to Blackpool bike ride on Sunday 12th July on a tandem to help raise funds for the club. Christie’s Hospital organize the mass bike ride so 20% of the money raised will go to the Christie’s charity for cancer treatment and research. Please support both causes by sponsoring Ella and her dad

The next event planned is the Annual Ball, which will be held at the Bolholt Country Park Hotel on Saturday, September 26th, details will be posted in the gym shortly.
If anyone would like to assist the club in fundraising then contact Sarah Turner the Club secretary. Remember we did it once after the fire I am sure we can step up to the mark again and give the gymnasts and people of Bury a state of the art gymnastics centre.
